Our Direct Line to God

The Voice in the Silence…
The light behind our eyes.

Every human being has a direct line to God.

It was present before we knew the word God. Before doctrine, before Scripture, before religion tried to carry a language for the sacred, something had already breathed life into us. We arrived inside existence carrying a relationship we did not establish.

The breath came first. Then came the explanations.

Human beings created structures around the mystery. We developed religions, doctrines, laws, rituals, institutions, titles, buildings, and traditions through which generations attempted to understand what could not be seen.

Some of these structures have carried beauty, wisdom, community, and remembrance across thousands of years. But the structure is not the relationship. The relationship was already there.

God did not wait for humanity to establish an institution before living with human beings. A child born beyond every religious boundary still receives life. The heart beats without doctrine. Consciousness awakens without permission. The Soul does not require membership before it can begin responding to something deeper.

The direct line is life itself.

This is where the visible and invisible worlds begin separating.

Institutional life exercises a muscle belonging largely to matter’s level. Buildings to enter, texts to read, authorities to recognize, practices to perform, communities to join, rules to follow, and identities to assume. The mind knows how to operate here because matter gives it coordinates.

God is knowing the Soul’s light, not the self-chattering mind in satan. 
We’re walking out of this skin into the light for depth.

It can say: I belong to this. I believe this. I practice this. These are my people. And the human story becomes increasingly solid. We’re not reaching beyond false idols and golden calves. It’s easier to be accepted than to search for light. 

The Soul exercises another muscle entirely. There is no audience. There may be no credential for what is happening. No one may recognize the distance consciousness has traveled. No title is awarded for surrendering an attachment, becoming less reactive, releasing an identity, carrying greater love, enduring the unknown with faith, or allowing an old understanding of reality to die.

Yet these may represent enormous movements in consciousness. The Soul is exercising in another part of the world. It is learning to perceive what cannot be held in the hand. It is developing the strength to remain in not knowing. It is becoming less dependent upon consensus for reality. It is learning to distinguish the noise of the constructed self from the quieter movement of interior Light.

This muscle develops through living. Life itself becomes the sanctuary.

A relationship becomes a lesson in attachment. Loss becomes a confrontation with impermanence. Success reveals whether we need the world to tell us who we are. Failure exposes identities we did not know we were protecting. Solitude reveals what remains when there is no one nearby reflecting the costume back to us.

Nothing has been removed from the spiritual curriculum. The curriculum has become everything.

This is why matter’s level has a purpose. We are not here merely to reject it. The human story gives consciousness something to move through.

We encounter bodies, personalities, celestial families, desires, possessions, ambitions, fears, nations, cultures, beauty, conflict, birth, aging, love, and death. These are not necessarily destinations. They are conditions through which consciousness develops.

Matter’s level carries the human story for living through not settling in. The difficulty begins when the temporary world becomes the final world. We live as bishops and parishioners instead of knowing light. 

Then the instrument becomes the reality. The body becomes the self. Status becomes worth. Possession becomes security. Community becomes identity. Doctrine becomes God. And the enormous invisible depth from which life arose is compressed into the handful of meanings the human mind can stabilize.

The Soul keeps calling beyond them. Away from family. Not away from love or the beauty of being alive. But beyond our attachment and self-identity in matter as definitions of what we are.

There is an enormous difference between loving someone and requiring that relationship to establish our identity. There is a difference between participating in society and allowing society to determine reality. There is a difference between learning from a spiritual tradition and asking that tradition to stand between consciousness and God.

The deeper walk begins removing the intermediaries. Eventually we discover something almost startling: the world we have been trying so hard to secure is not being lived outside of us. It is being lived through us.

Every landscape enters consciousness. Every relationship is encountered through consciousness. Every joy, humiliation, achievement, fear, memory, belief, and perception becomes part of a narrative that no other human being can inhabit exactly as we do. The world exists at our level of consciousness, and only our interpretation lives.

We cannot step outside our awareness and experience the world without it. And therefore the great transformation is not ultimately accomplished by rearranging everything outside ourselves. It occurs through what consciousness becomes capable of carrying. What we can absorb and interpret. 

The same world can hold a five-year-old, a twenty-five-year-old, and an eighty-year-old, while each inhabits an entirely different landscape of meaning. Matter has not necessarily changed. Consciousness has.

The spiritual journey carries this development farther. We begin moving from the reality established by the senses toward a reality informed by Spirit.

From consensus toward discernment. From identity toward livingness. From possession toward participation. From certainty toward depth. From the human story toward the eternal order moving through it. This is conscious evolution.

Not the ego becoming spiritually impressive. Not accumulating enough sacred information to construct a more sophisticated costume. It is consciousness becoming capable of living from another level.

What once required external reinforcement begins finding an interior foundation. What once seemed solid becomes temporary. What once seemed invisible begins carrying greater reality than what can be touched.

Heaven’s side does not necessarily appear somewhere else. It begins as a different relationship with what is already here. The same person stands before us, but we see beyond the role they play in our narrative. The same body carries us, but we stop calling its temporary form the entirety of self.

The same world surrounds us, but we recognize it as a field through which consciousness is moving rather than the boundary of existence. And God becomes less an idea we inherited and more a living relationship we are learning to recognize.

This is what the direct line has been all along. Not a special channel reserved for saints, prophets, priests, mystics, or enlightened beings.

Life. Breath. Awareness. Soul.

The quiet capacity within every human being to turn beneath the noise of the visible world and discover that something greater has been present from the beginning.

We did not establish the connection. We arrived through it.

And the walk to God may be the gradual strengthening of the interior muscle capable of recognizing what the human story could never give us because it was already ours before the story began.
